Beach Rides for Intermediate & Advanced Riders
Beach riding is only available to riders who meet all of our minimum riding requirements. For safety reasons, we cannot take beginner or inexperienced riders on beach rides.
Minimum Riding Requirements
- Mount/Dismount unaided adjust stirrups & girth
- Be able to rise to the trot
- Be able to canter
- Have an independent seat, i.e. not holding on to the front of saddle/neck strap or using reins to balance, at walk, trot & canter
- Be confident and able to control a horse in an open space at canter
All horses are ridden English style with English Saddles.

1½ Hour Beach Ride

Experience the thrill of riding along the beautiful Donegal coastline, with an exhilarating canter along the beach before heading back through the spectacular sand dunes.

All our beach rides are private — just you and your group, with no mixed-ability riders. This means more personal attention and a more relaxed, enjoyable experience for everyone.
For Experienced Riders Only
Beach riding is only available to riders who meet all of our minimum riding requirements. This is not a beginner or novice ride.
Suitable for adults and children aged 10 years and over.
All horses are ridden in English style using English saddles.
Safety Assessment
For everyone’s safety, all riders are assessed in the arena before leaving for the beach.
If your riding ability does not meet the required standard, we will do our best to transfer you to a more suitable ride where possible. Please be aware that no refund will be given if you have overestimated your riding ability.

2 Hour Beach Ride
More time on the beach. More adventure. More to explore.
Enjoy an unforgettable 2-hour ride along the spectacular Donegal coastline. After a good canter along Tullan Strand, we continue onto the Erne Estuary beach, where experienced riders can enjoy the thrill of a good gallop, subject to rider assessment.
The ride then heads into the sand dunes and climbs to the top, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views across the Estuary and surrounding coastline, before returning through the dunes.

1 Hour Beach Ride
A chance to take your riding from the arena to the beach!
Our 1-hour beach rides are exclusively for regular Donegal Equestrian Centre riders who already know our horses and are familiar with our riding style.
These rides are available to riders who have ridden with us within the last six months and are confident and capable at the required level.
As these rides are arranged specifically for our regular riders, they are not available to book online. Please contact Donegal EC directly by phone, email or in person to discuss availability and arrange your ride.
